Le Genie de la Danse
A wax bust of Le Genie de la Danse, after Carpeaux (1827-1875). These wax forms were often part of the lost wax casting process where wax is poured into the mould to create a perfect replica of the final casting. The wax could then be covered in a ceramic or other shell and would melt away when the bronze was poured in. Wax scuptures are, of course delicate and not many have survived.
